The End of an Era-The Patriot Club at Offutt Air Force Base is Closing
The Patriot Club at Offutt Air Force Base last day will be Friday, 2 November. After that the building will no longer have lunch and will be run by the Community Center.
Several employees that I spoke with will lose their jobs and do not have another job lined up.
The building will be renovated to support the new function. With the renovations hopefully access for the disabled will be in mind. Currently, there is very limited parking at this building. The sidewalk is uneven and dangerous for those with mobility impairments. The bathrooms are in need of updating to be usable. Electric push button doors for the entrance would make this both usable and welcoming to disabled veterans and disabled family members and guests.
In its hey day, the Club provided sumptuous Sunday brunches with hand carved roasts, linen and many fine food items. Over time, this was reserved for special holidays.
Lack of members utilizing the regular lunches to offset operating costs were mentioned as contributing factors to this decision. Raising costs and prices were cited by retirees as reasons to eat out elsewhere.
