Go Fly a Kite! Kite Flying Day at Memorial Park- Monday 27 February

Everyone is invited to celebrate this fun custom of flying kites.

The Omaha community is invited to join St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church to meet at Memorial Park (6005 Underwood Avenue) from 4:30 – 5:30 PM. for kite
flying.

In Greece, it is a custom to fly kites on Clean Monday (Καθαρά Δευτέρα). Clean Monday is called so because it is the first day of fasting for Great Lent. The beginning of Lent for Orthodox Christians is 27 February. (This can be different than the Lent start date for other faiths.) Fasting in the Orthodox community means abstaining from different things including the animal products of meat, milk and eggs.

This is followed by a Lenten meal at the church and a church service.

If you want to come for the Lenten meal, please bring a Lenten dish to share, if you are able to.

Begin the Lenten journey together at the service of Compline beginning at 6:30 PM.
