When looking for the next up-and-coming design, trend, technological development, or entrepreneur – most would gravitate to a well-known coast; but this entrepreneurial team is highlighting the country’s best-kept-secret.

Karisa Malchow started Stature which is a custom-tailored clothing solution for tall women. For as long as she can remember, she’s been tall. Struggling for years to find a solution for clothing that fits, she decided to venture on her own and create the solution.
Not knowing where to start, she turned to Omaha’s Startup Collaborative. Flying through the initial testing levels of the program, she knew she’d found her niche and her solution. However, going about fully developing and implementing that solution was a different initiative altogether.
By merging the ease of ordering online with the customization of personally-selected lengths based on your body and your preference, Stature gives tall women custom clothing that highlights their beautiful frame. By owning the product and the platform, Stature is able to deliver directly to the customer without any unnecessary steps in between.
For the platform, she found her confidant in local IT expert, Troy Cogswell. Having met through his wife – who feels the struggle of clothing that doesn’t measure up – the two hit it off, teamed up and got to work immediately.
Developing the product had several other layers. With a marketing background and little to no sewing experience, she knew she needed to rely on an expert. Partnering up with Fashion Institute Midwest, most famously associated with Omaha Fashion Week, she found her designer in Denise Ervin. Working closely, they developed the first collection which just launched earlier this month.
Having visited manufacturers Los Angeles, Chicago, St. Louis and overseas, they settled on manufacturing right here in the heartland. Tailors located in Omaha are being employed full-time to be able to produce the clothing after it’s been ordered, creating a truly custom-tailored experience.
